Stiletto

Just a mom raising The Boy (adopted from Guatemala) along with my fabulous husband (MFH). I am a shoe whore, especially of the high heeled variety. Hence, the nickname.

We are the champions.......

This weekend marks the culmination of the 2007-2008 hockey season for The Boy. His club hosted an end of the season tournament.

For four games, these kids played hard. The Boy is the only five year old on his team of six year olds. During practice all season, his team plays regularly with the seven and eight year olds.

It showed.

They came away from the weekend undefeated.

Here he is, celebrating after he scored a goal.

We just couldn't be more proud of all ten of them.

Springtime in the Rockies

We woke up to a reminder that Easter came early this year. The city is a much warmer climate than the town we used to live it, which is higher up in the Rockies. So even though we had snow, we also had this beautiful sunshine, and it was much warmer on this Easter egg hunt than any of the others we attended back home without snow and later in the season.

The Boy didn't mind. I think he misses all the snow we used to have.

They shoveled off the football field in order to hold this Easter egg hunt.

This age group was 4 to 6 year olds, so other than following to keep track of your child, I really didn't get the parents needing to help their kids.

As you can see, The Boy knew just what to do.

A fine batch of eggs!

Happy Easter!

After 16 years he still makes me laugh

Today is a holiday at W.endy's Corporate Office. MFH had to work.

At 4:00 I got this text on my phone.

MFH - You're drinking aren't you

Me - Just thinking about having one

MFH - Bitch

Me - LMAO

MFH - What?

I forgot he's not a blogger. He doesn't know the lingo.

Optimism

We called to ask my good friend out for dinner on Saturday night. She couldn't go, as it was her son's last prom and she wanted to take pictures.

And cry.

That explains all the young boys I saw in W.almart buying condoms earlier that day.

To the boy that bought TWO large boxes, which my husband informed me probably contained 12 condoms each -

Seriously? For one night?

It now occurs to me that he was probably the only one of his friends brave enough to buy them, and perhaps he was going to share.

Mixed emotions

I got an email from my former boss last night stating that he has hired a new bookkeeper that he is "cautiously optimistic" about. The email subject line was blank (No Subject), so when I read it I was a bit taken aback.

I immediately closed it, and went on about my business, which is taking care of his business.

When I finally replied, I wrote "A topic such as this certainly is deserving of a subject line, don't you think?" and I asked him what he wants of me at this point.

I must admit, I don't know how I feel. I mean, I knew it was coming and I certainly didn't want to work two jobs forever, but I feel kind of sad and - expendible.

Odd.

Anyway, in that same email he asked, jokingly, what I will be doing with all my spare time.

Getting reacquainted with my family? Not feeling tired all the time? Not stressing about too much work and not enough hours in the day?

Unfortunately, I think the hard part is about to begin.

Learning to let go, and how to say no.

Here she is....

It is such a sweet ride. I am so impressed with the handling and the smoothness of it all. I wouldn't go so far as to say they are all worth what they cost, as this one was about $40,000 brand new in 1977, but it was definitely worth what we paid for it.

It is a hardtop only, but has the sunroof. That's fine with me. I've never been a fan of the wind blowing through my hair.

She has 95,000 original miles. I will be enjoying this car for many years to come.

The Boy says when he's old enough to drive, he's painting it blue with black racing stripes. I can't imagine this car any other color than red. If he wants it blue, he'll have to wait until he inherits the car.

And then I'll haunt him.

Karma

Two weeks ago, my FIL was stopped at an intersection and was hit from behind. He was pushed into the car in front of him. The guy behind sped past them and away, scot free. FIL asked MFH to go look at the car and estimate the damage. The driver of the hit car owned a car lot; the car was one that was for sale. He didn't let on at the time that he owned the lot; he professed to be test driving the car.

While at the lot, MFH notices an old Mercedes for sale. One of those dream cars that I want someday. He took me back on Saturday night. The light was on in the trailer(yeah, a real reputable place), and the salesman gave us a ridiculously low sale price.

So ridiculous, that we researched it and called first thing Monday morning to buy the car. The price was what they paid for the car - not it's resale - but they honored it. Not before offering us money(thousands) to NOT buy the car. Not before taking money from my FIL to fix the car that was rear ended and going to auction without repair. Not before disclosing that he bought the car from a guy that needed money to pay for his daughter's medical bills - and he paid for the car just what we paid for it - only half what it is worth as it sits.

So - I am the proud owner of a 1977 Mercedes-Benz 450SLC at a stupid low price.

The owner of the lot took advantage of two people, one of whom I love.

He asked that we bring the car back to him if we decide we don't like it.

Yeah, right.

Tea-lightful

It was a very pleasant afternoon.

The M.oss M.ansion is an historic house museum. It was built in 1903 and cost $105,000.00. It is all original.

They have tours daily, and at different times of the year they have theme displays. Currently they are presenting Here Comes The Bride - 100 years of wedding fashions from families of the Yellowstone Valley.

MFH's great-grandmother's wedding dress from 1908 is on display, along with 53 other dresses, only 3 of which are older than hers. My MIL also displayed their framed marriage license and their wedding picture. They cropped G-G Mabel's picture out and used it on the entrance tickets, as well as on a poster of the event. This was all a surprise. We (MFH's aunt and myself) didn't know that she had taken these items in. It was really quite nice.

I wore a very light weight black skirt with a tan lacy overlay and a black lace jacket, hose and heels. I was overdressed. There were many people there in flipflops and jeans, but my MIL was happy that we had occasion to dress up.

Sometimes, it's all about making her happy.
